Thanks to the support of over 200 volunteers from 36 companies and organisations, this year’s Career Exploration Day successfully introduced over 50 job tasters and other career-related activities involving 28 industries to near 4,000 Form 4 students from WeCan schools, making it the largest in scale since its launch in 2015.

Held on 21 April 2018, Saturday, at IVE and THEi Tsing Yi campuses, the event was kicked off by The Hon Paul Chan, GBM, GBS, MH, JP, the Financial Secretary, Mr Stephen Ng, Chairman of Project WeCan Committee, Mrs Patricia Ling, MH, JP, President of Hong Kong Young Women’s Christian Association, Professor Ronald Chung, Deputy Executive Director of Vocational Training Council, Ms Malina Ngai, JP, Member of Advisory Committee on the Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged, Social Welfare Department, and teacher, parent and student representatives.

Prior to the event, all students had to complete a career interest questionnaire adapted by YWCA based on the John Holland’s theory.  According to the result, students were assigned to different job tasters that match their dominant personality types, namely Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising and Conventional, on the day.  Through interesting activities and interaction with industry personnel, students could get a taste of a job that they may consider to pursue in future.  Other career-related activities including mock interviews, workshops and career talks were organised to equip and inspire students for their own career and life planning.  Useful information related to further study and career options was also made available at the information booths to enable students to make informed choices.
