With the support of around 40 companies and organisations this year, two rounds of the 2018/19 Career Exploration Day were successfully held in November 2018 and January 2019, at Youth College (Yeo Chei Man). Nearly 50 job tasters and other career-related activities covering more than 20 different industries were introduced to Form 4 students from WeCan participating schools.
The Kick-Off Ceremony was launched on 24 November 2018. Mr. Sunny Lo, Chairman of Café de Coral Holdings Limited, kindly gave a remarkable keynote speech to the audience and encouraged youngsters to have a positive attitude towards life, followed by Mr. Ray Chan, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of 9GAG Limited who shared his views on the importance of reflection for business success.
During the Welcoming Ceremony on 26 January 2019, we were honored to have Mr. Benjamin Hung, Regional CEO, Greater China & North Asia CEO, Retail Banking & Wealth Management of Standard Chartered Bank and Mr. Thomas Wong, Partner, CW CPA to be the speakers of the “Key to Success” Chit-Chat Session. Together with the Moderator, Mr. Stephen Ng, Chairman of Project WeCan Committee, they gave out some inspirational advices and shared hand on experiences to the audiences. In addition, Miss Juanita Mok, the Silver Medalist of Taijiquan and Taijijian all –round Competition in 2018 Asian Games, also joined the ceremony and shared her career path to be a professional full-time athlete.
Prior to the event, all students had to complete a career interest questionnaire conducted by YWCA using John Holland’s theory. Based on the result, students were then assigned to different job tasters that match their dominant personality types, namely Realistic(R), Investigative(I), Artistic(A), Social(S), Enterprising(E) and Conventional(C), on the day. Through interesting activities and interaction with personnel from different fields, students had the opportunity to explore their potentials and equip themselves for planning their future.
