Project WeCan organised five rounds of Shape Our Future: WeCan! – Project WeCan Online Career Exploration Day in 2020/21 school year, with 46 job tasters and other career-related activities being offered.  Over 5,300 Form Four and Five students from 76 WeCan schools participated.  Each student received a material pack required for the job taster activity well in advance.  By following instructions from tutors who were also partner volunteers online, students were able to have a taste of a particular job role, such as doing architectural drawing like an Architectural Assistant, wrapping gift boxes as a Shop Assistant, coffee making as a Barista, etc.   There were other career-related talks and activities, such as “Key to Success” Chit-chat Session, workshops for communication skills and interview tips, information sessions of different industries, sharing sessions about university life and career interest consultation sessions.

Project WeCan partners, Ms Vanessa Cheung, Group Managing Director of Nan Fung Development Ltd and Founder of The Mills, and Mr Desmond Chan, Deputy General Manager (Legal & International Operations) of Television Broadcasts Limited joined us as guest speakers of the “Key to Success” Chit-chat Session, moderated by Mr Stephen Ng, Committee Chairman of Project WeCan Foundation.  They shared their experience and personal career exploration journey, and advised students to nurture own creativity and innovation in order to stay competitive in the business world.  Students were encouraged to always equip themselves, particularly in language ability and to remember the 3 Opens – Open their eyes; Open their minds; and Open their hearts.

With the great support from WeCan partners of different industries, students had the opportunity to explore their potentials and interests through various online activities.  Partners, teachers and students found the activities challenging yet fruitful and interesting.  Below are some of their feedback:

“This activity allowed me opportunities to learn the basics of some industries that I am interested in. I am very happy to learn from the speakers who shared their daily work and requirement of the job with us. Thank you very much!” from participated student

“The arrangement was generally great, with well-equipped computers, camera, etc. and support from YWCA and WeCan to facilitate the delivery of activity to students. The overall experience as partner/ instructor was great.” from participated partner
