Lingnan University (LingU) has been supporting Project WeCan since 2019, partnering with Ju Ching Chu Secondary School (Tuen Mun). Through relevant credit-bearing subjects, LingU students organised service-learning activities for their partner school under the guidance of LingU tutors.
In the second term of 2023/24, service-learning students from LingU provided English and Cantonese classes to S1-2 students from their partner school, aiming to spark students’ interest in English and assist newly arrived students in adjusting to school life by familiarising them with Cantonese.
On 5 February 2024, Project WeCan Secretariat conducted an Orientation Session for LingU students who would be serving as tutors. This session helped them understand the beneficiaries’ backgrounds and needs, enabling them to better prepare and tailor the class content accordingly.
The English and Cantonese classes were held from mid-February to April, employing interactive teaching methods and presentations to make the learning process engaging and enjoyable. The classes not only enhanced language proficiency but also fostered social integration and cultural understanding among the students.
