During this summer, 14students and teachers from two WeCan schools and a WeCan scholar participated in the Wu Zhi Qiao Service Project 2024, generously sponsored by The Wharf Group, to engage in facility improvement projects in Xiaowupo village in the Hebei Province.

Before the service trip, teachers and students attended a series of workshops, including a day trip to Lai Chi Wo, a cooking class, and a first-aid workshop, in order to better understand the trip requirements and be prepared.  On 3 August 2024, they travelled with the Wu Zhi Qiao team to Xiaowupo village to help improve the local community facilities, completing a multitude of projects in a week together with students from Hong Kong and mainland universities, such as building a footbridge, upgrading the facilities of the village’s plaza and environmental education centre, and painting wall murals.

Before returning to Hong Kong, the students continued their expedition in Beijing with guided tours at one of the Wharf’s joint venture residential projects “One LiangMa” and the Palace Museum.  Students found the visits inspiring as they learnt more about national development from the dual perspectives of real estate and history and culture.  The service project not only broadened the students’ horizons but also deepened their understanding of rural life and local customs.  This experience is sure to be a memorable highlight of their summer break
