Dr Glenn Yee, partner of Buddhist Wong Wan Tin College, sponsored 40 students to a captivating journey on 6 December 2024 to his hometown – Kaiping, a town renowned for its connection to Huaqiao (華僑). Upon arrival to the town, students visited the Fengcai Ancestral Hall, a heritage building where the Yee’s ancestors contributed to their hometown a century ago from their hard-earned money overseas. Students also visited Zili Village and marveled at the remarkable building structures in the countryside called Diaolou which is now under the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The combination of Chinese and Western architecture not only made the building unique, it was also designed to protect family members from robberies. The trip ended in a renowned biscuit factory operated by the Jiashili Group. Witnessing the intricate workings of the automated production line and learning about the stringent quality control measures in place impressed the youths on the evolution of this manufacturer, leading the brand to the best in the industry.
Big thanks to Dr Yee! We believe students bring home not just memories but also a deeper appreciation for the stories and legacies that shape the places they visited during the trip.
