Students joining the Job Tasting Programme this year were required to go through normal recruitment procedures such as CV and application submission, cover letter preparation and panel interviews.  Owing to COVID-19, the panel interviews were conducted online this year.  While the 2-4 weeks’ internship had to be cancelled because of the pandemic, a one-week Virtual Internship Programme was made possible by the kind support of 17 organisations.  Over 150 students participated in the Programme, including the 75 students who originally signed up for Job Tasting.

The three core sessions under the Programme include ‘Company Introductions’, ‘Meeting the supervisors’ and ‘Attending Business Workshops’. The 75 students not only had a chance to meet with their supervisors, some were also given work assignments to complete within 1-2 days to have a taste of the real working place.  Thanks to Mr Chi Lo from BNP Paribas, Mr Michael Chung from The Taxation Institute of Hong Kong and Ms Sandy Wong from Parfums Christian Dior Hong Kong for conducting the workshops and giving practical tips and advice to equip our students.

It is our hope that the Virtual Internship Programme not only could provide students a chance to explore their vocational choices, but also equip them with basic skills when they join the workforce in the future.

Two students’ sharing

“My English writing skill was improved after preparing the cover letter of the application.  Besides, I feel more confident now after practicing the self-introduction and Q&A sessions during the online interview.”

“I was thrilled when I knew that I got the internship offer.  Although the workplace experience was changed to virtual internship due to the pandemic, I learnt a lot from participating in the 3-day programme.  I not only acquired knowledge in the working guideline, but also gained an understanding of the daily work of the internship position and the handling skill required.”
